On 20 September, 1926, my grandfather, Cesare Calzolari,
was awarded a gold medal for the creation of a “building project” competing
at the centuries-old Agricultural and Industrial Fair (Fiera Millenaria)
of Gonzaga.
It was in that period that the building firm was established which Cesare’s
sons, Francesco and Ismaele transformed into the current company in 1964.
The third generation had taken over by the time production began, in
1985, of a range of concrete street furniture equipment.
In 2000, a cast-iron amenity proposal was presented with a novel design
that further extended the company’s product range and this was also
integrated with stainless-steel and wood products.
Calzolari is today one of Italy’s best known manufacturers of street
furniture, with extensive experience acquired in many different fields:
from the manufacture of customized amenities for marinas (Marina degli Aregai
in Imperia and Wet Dock Savona - urban development project by Ricardo Bofili)
to the production of architectural details for commercial buildings (“Canova” Shopping
Centre in Florence - designed by Mario Botta), to personalised outdoor amenities
for the Milan-Bicocca University (designed by Vittorio Gregotti) right up
to the most recent works produced for the Athens Olympic Games in 2004.
Calzolari also developed furnishing for the new parking lots on the A1
Motorway (Milan-Naples), commissioned by the TAV (High-Speed Train), while
traditional sectors represented by thousands of town and city councils and
organized large-scale distribution concerns (Motorway Restaurants, Oil Companies,
Shopping Centres, etc.) can be considered as the strong subject market for
the Company.
Over recent years, closer cooperation has resulted with major Italian
designers and this has produced new products included in a catalogue that
has aroused considerable interest among designers and customers.
